You can do it right now! This week's drill: Overcoming the failure to float up
Share
The second drill this week is a drill on "dive → float up", which is a very important task in butterfly. After the race starts, you dive in, but in an unfamiliar pool, you can't decide on your own vassallo, water depth, or the start of your stroke. I'm sure many of you have had the experience of this.
Today's drill focuses on practicing this lift-off. Normally, you only do one lift-off per lap, but with this drill, you can effectively practice by recreating the angle of the moment when you lift off multiple times.
Triple kick butterfly!
However, this drill can be applied to other swimming styles besides the butterfly stroke, so even if you don't specialize in the butterfly stroke, be sure to check it out.
<How to do it>
1. First, kick off with a strong kick as usual and then lift yourself up with your chin tucked.
2. After the first stroke, dive a little deeper and kick three times.
3. After the third kick, begin your usual lift-up motion.
4. Repeat steps 1 to 3.
One more tip!
The trick to mastering this drill is to not dive too deep or too shallow after the recovery. Find the depth where you can come up on the next stroke with three kicks. By doing so, you will learn your own timing for coming up and the depth you need (like a standard value).
Instead of the head suddenly popping up, try to imagine it floating up with a smooth stroke.
