The world's fastest and oldest swimmers performed together at a Swimming Day event held on August 14th.
That's right! Kosuke Kitajima (32) and Mieko Nagaoka (KSG Yanai), the world's oldest masters swimmer, 101 years old, swam 50 meters together. In addition to the two, Shigehiro Takahashi , Chairman of the Japan Swimming Association, and others also participated in the 50 meter "co-swimming" instead of competitive swimming.
Kitajima seemed to have been energized by the world's oldest swimmer, saying, "I was able to savor the happiness of swimming with the other members today. Nagaoka-san is simply amazing. I was reminded that swimming is a sport that can be enjoyed regardless of age."
Nagaoka recalled the experience with a smile, saying, "I managed to swim. I was surprised to see Kitajima next to me. It was like a dream."
